Albert Garcia has been interim president of Sacramento City College since last summer and has now been made permanent president.

Albert Garcia named new president of Sacramento City College

Albert Garcia, who has been serving as interim president of Sacramento City College since last summer, will now be the permanent president.

Last week, the Los Rios Community College District Board of Trustees unanimously announced this appointment.

In the announcement, board president John Knight said, 'He has a high level of respect and we are all looking forward to the work he will do on behalf the students at Sacramento City College.'

Garcia was appointed interim president in July last year, after former President Michael Gutierrez left Sacramento City College to take the same post at Hartnell College, in Salinas.

Garcia has worked at Sacramento City College for over 30 years in different roles.

Garcia stated in his announcement that 'This school is in your blood'. "Now I am honored to be president. This is a great opportunity. I am grateful to be working in such a wonderful place, with so many amazing people, to improve the lives of our students.

Garcia served as the chairperson of the English Department for two terms after being hired in 1991. His various positions over the years include dean of the Language and Literature Division and vice president for instruction.

In the announcement, Los Rios Chancellor Brian King said: 'Albert's thoughtfulness and collaboration, kindness and intellect are well-known throughout the college and our district. He is also known for his commitment to serve students, as well as to the district and college focus on anti-racism and equity.

Sacramento City College, a community-based college, has its main campus located on Freeport Boulevard at Land Park. The college has 18000 students in its three campuses, including one in Davis and another in West Sacramento. Los Rios Community College District includes Cosumnes River College Folsom Lake College American River College.
