Two members of a prominent newspaper's editorial board have resigned in protest over the decision by the newspaper's owner not to endorse a presidential candidate. Although they will continue their work at the newspaper in different capacities, they expressed the necessity of endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris. Their concern centers on the candidacy of former President Donald J. Trump, whom they view as a threat to democracy.

One of the former board members, a recipient of a prestigious award for editorial writing on authoritarianism, emphasized the urgency of maintaining a strong editorial voice during critical political moments. They plan to continue efforts related to press freedom globally.

The other former board member highlighted the editorial board's mission to advocate for the best candidates and policies, aiming for moral clarity in their writings. The imperative to endorse Vice President Harris over Mr. Trump, they argue, presents a stark moral rationale.
