Jobs that require artificial intelligence (AI) skills offer higher wages compared to those that don’t, according to recent research. An analysis of job advertisements last year found that AI-related roles in the United States had an average wage premium of 25% compared to similar jobs in the same field that didn’t require AI skills. The premium was 14% in the United Kingdom and 11% in Canada. The demand for AI skills is increasing rapidly, with the number of AI-related jobs growing 3.5 times faster than the total number of jobs between 2012 and 2023. Certain professions, such as lawyers and financial analysts, see particularly pronounced wage premiums for AI skills. The report also highlighted that labor productivity in industries exposed to AI is growing significantly faster than in other sectors, contributing to higher living standards.
