Chrysler-parent Stellantis is laying off factory workers from its Warren Truck assembly plant in Detroit. The company will end production of the Ram 1500 Classic truck, resulting in layoffs of up to 2,450 workers. The layoffs will be effective from Oct. 8 as the plant transitions from a two-shift to a one-shift operating pattern. The Jeep Wagoneer production at the same facility will continue on two shifts. Stellantis is shifting its focus to the Ram 1500 Tradesman truck, manufactured at the Sterling Heights Assembly facility. The United Auto Workers union represents approximately 3,700 workers at the plant who will be affected by the layoffs. Union members will receive various benefits, including supplemental unemployment benefits, transition assistance, and healthcare coverage. Stellantis recently offered voluntary buyouts to its U.S. salaried workers.
